«Specific characters:— Shell of medium size, equilateral, fan-shaped, with length and height approximately equal, pronouncedly inequivalve; inflation moderate, the left valve much more flattened than the right; valves each with about 9 wide, rounded, prominent costae, and several minor ones near the lateral margins; intercostal spaces slightly narrower than the costae; entire surface of shell ornamented radially wittr rows of rather nodular, imbricating squamae, about five rows covering each rib and five each interspace ; ears ornamented with nodular riblets.
Locality:— Zanzibar 55. Material:— One specimen (L. 44049), bivalve, but rather broken laterally. Dimensions:— Original length about 45mm., height 45mm., inflation 16mm. Comparison with other species:—In the general character of its sculpture this species bears some resemblance to C. sanguinolenta (Gmelin), but differs in its wider umbonal angle and more numerous, wider ribs.» LESLIE REGINALD COX, 1927

Material:— Sample PEK.5506 (Mafia Island, on beach 100 yds. S. of Customs House, Kilindoni; Pliocene), 1 specimen.
Remarks:— Although Weir (54) tentatively placed this species in the synonymy of C. (A.) sanguinolenta, not only are the ribs more massive, but the secondary threads are more strongly crenulated.
