«1923. Pecten (Syncyclonema) sp. Trechmann, Quart. J. Geol. Soc. 79 (3) : 276, Pl. 15, Fig. 4.
Shell rather small, surface smooth. Left valve with each ear separated from disk by relatively deep and broad channel, anterior ear much larger than poslerior and having the lower part of its anterior margin almost vertical; posterior ear with an oblique posterior margin. Right valve with ears separated from disk by only a groove.
Holotype.— N. Z. Geological Survey. Length, 21 mm.; height, 19.5 mm.; inflation (l.v.), 2 mm. Locality.—G. S. 349, "Lower part of Lower Plagiostoma bed, Otapiri Creek " (bed 52c, McKay, 1878: 84). Stage.— Aratauran. Characteristic features are the well-defined channels separating the ears from the disk in the left valve, and the unequal ears. An internal cast of a left valve from G. S. 341, Flag Hill beds, Flag Hill (= Ben Bolt), Ururoan, shows traces of fine radials intersecting regular concentrics. It probably represents an unnamed species of Entolium.» JOHN MARWICK, 1953
