«Velata puncta KUMURA, n. sp.
Pl. I, Fig. 21. Description:— Right valve flat, quadrangular, longer than high, quite inequilateral; beak located at about one-fourth of the shell length from the posterior end; umbonal angle a little obtuse; posterodorsal margin nearly straight; posterior margin narrowly rounded, transmitting into a little concave postero-ventral margin; antero-dorsal one nearly straight behind the anterior ear, bent abruptly below the ear and straightend toward the front; anterior one a little convex, oblique; ventral one faintly curved. Beak wide, not prominent; anterior ear very long, a little shorter than a half of the shell length, somewhat quadrangular and horizontally elongated; a long byssal groove with a strong ctenolium found below the anterior ear. Posterior ear not well preserved, probably quite narrow and truncated behind obliquely backward.
The whole surface of the shell covered by innumerable radial striae and furrows, where the furrows are broader than the striae; they are crossed by concentric striae which are wavy, projecting above the radials and incised below the base-level of the furrows; the furrows appear to be pitted at the intersection between the concentrics and radials. Dimension:— The holotype (No. 7125) is 20.5 mm height and 27.0 mm in length. Comparison:— The holotype specimen is unusually qudrangular in outline, probably caused by secondary deformation. Occurrence:— Mimikire.» TOSHIO KIMURA, 1951
