«Shell small or medium in size, obliquely ovate, the posterior side narrowed by the deep inswing or contraction below the ear so that its end appears as if slightly produced and flaring. Valves are nearly equal in shape,
their convexity so slight as to appear almost flat. The sculpture is strong produced by highly ornamented ribs (about 14) set between wider, flaltened or mildly rounded interspaces. The ornamentation of both the ribs and their interspaces is elaborate, the fine details shown by figure 3b. Each rib is wide and flat on top but with a longitudinal line or keel along its middle across which the raised concentrics form a toothlike or scalloped bend; on each side, the rib is bordered by a sharp or raised edge, higliest near the ventral end. The interspace is wide, flat or slightly rounded in the bottom, and carries eight or nine radial threads, with cross-threads between them; above the longitudinal threads become weaker but the cross-threads remain and impart to the surface of the interspace, a sculptural design like that of coarsely woven cloth. The hinge line is short relative to the width of the shell, the posterior ear small. Shell texture is relatively thin, subtranslucent, the ventral margin sffongly fluted. Length 42.9 mm., height 40.6 mm., diameter 6 mm. A left valve. Holotype, USNM 644087. Length 34.8 mm., height 33.6 mm., diameter 5.5 mm. A right valve. Paratype, USNM 644088. The species is named for Dr. Wendell P. Woodring of the U. S. Geological Survey. Esmeraldas formation: Quebrada Camarones.» AXEL ADOLPH OLSSON, 1964
