«DISTRIBUTION. — Indo-West Pacific: Red Sea, Seychelles, China Sea, the Philippines, Solomon Islands, east coast of Australia, New Caledonia. Attached to corals to 52 m.
DESCRIPTION. — Shell height to 65 mm; ovate, moderately convex, almost equivalve; cardinal area short. Sculpture of numerous, fine, radial ribs which bear thin, sharp, upright spines; interstices smooth, without sculpture. Colour variable, usually brown or white with areas of colour, spines orange, yelloworange or white, often dark spotted umbonally, all white specimens occur rarely; internally blue-white with a wide, coloured, crenulated margin, brown at the hinge.
REMARKS. — Based on a range of S. versicolor in the KL collection, there does not appear to be sufficient characters to substantiate the validation of S. plurispinosus.»
