«(Named after Prof. J. W. Gregory, F.R.S.)
Specific characters:— Shell attaining fairly large dimensions, slightly inequivalve. Right valve with its central region flattened in profile; sculpture of right valve consisting of about 22-23 wide, flattened, smooth, depressed coste, the middle ones much more crowded together than the lateral ones, which are but feebly developed; coste becoming obsolete towards the ventral margin in full-grown specimens; intercostal spaces narrower than the coste, and ornamented with fine, concentric threads. Left valve feebly convex in profile, somewhat less inflated than the right, ornamented with about 20 narrow rounded coste, the lateral ones very feebly developed; intercostal spaces much wider than the coste, and ornamented with fine concentric threads. Ears in both valves fairly large, smooth, the right anterior with a slight sinus below it. Interior of right valve with about 22 pairs of narrow, salient ribs, pointed at their extremities, interior of left valve unknown.
Localities:— Pemba 1, 75c. Material:— The holotype, a right valve from Loc. 1 (L. 43789), and six rather broken paratypes, three of them bivalve. Dimensions:— The holotype, the largest specimen, measures-length 80mm., height 78mm., inflation 10mm. Comparison with other species:— This species has a greater number of coste than any previously described Amussiopecten, and hence is easily distinguishable. In all its characters, however, especially the difference in the ribbing of the two valves, it is a very typical representative of the group.» LESLIE REGINALD COX, 1927
