«Shell rather small, nearly equilateral and weakly inflated. Sculptured with 19 rounded, scabrous ribs which are a little wider than the interspaces. The margins uf the ribs have a weak longitudinal thread with a shallow sulcus above suggesting a tricarinate arrangement. Interspaces ornamented with one low medial radial thread and an occasional weaker thread on either side. Anterior auricle on right valve moderately large and with a rather deep byssal notch and sculptured with six moderately strong scabrous radials. Left auricle of right valve smaller than right but ornamented with same number of radials. Submargins without any visible radials.
Dimensions: Holotype (right valve) (U. S. National Museum no. 495976): Length, 27 mm.; height, 26 mm. Type locality: Station 7353, midway between Anthony and Martin, Marion County. Horizon: Tampa limestone, lower Miocene. Chlamys marionensis differs from Chlamys brooksvillensis in having a less inflated shell, closer spaced ribs, and in lacking the strong interradial thread. The right valve of Chlamys chipolamus Dall has fewer and squarer ribs. Occurrence: Type locality; stations 12314, 12753, 11115, upper bed at Kendrick, Marion County.» WENDELL CLAY MANSFIELD, 1937
