Placopeeten taiwanensis Masuda and Huang, 1993, p. 265, pI. 3, figs. 7-14. Holotype: NTUM 93-075 Remarks: Original description is as follows: "Shell medium in size, rather thick, moderately inflated, orbicular in outline, equilateral, nearly equivalve, forming an angle of about 100° at apex. Right valve with about 30, very low, flat-topped, faint radial ribs and fine incremental lines; radial ribs much broader than their very shallow interspaces, and usually tend to bifurcate and become obsolete towards ventral margin; auricles sculptured with fine radial threads and concentric lines. Left valve with numerous, very low, fine radial ribs, fine intercalary threads and fine incremental lines; radial ribs broader than their interspaces, tend to become bifurcate towards ventral margin; intercalary threads between radial ribs appear at upper part of disc and become nearly equal to bifurcated radial ribs near ventral margin". Placopecten tani Kanno and Chung can be distinguished from the present species by its small, compressed shell, larger anterior auricle with a deep byssal notch and conspicuous cardinal crura. It is also distinguishable from Placopecten mai Masuda and Huang by its smaller number of bifurcated, smooth, flat-topped radial ribs on the right valve and slightly inflated left valve with bifurcated radial ribs in association with intercalary threads. Dimensions (in mm.)
