Holotype: NTUM 93-067 Remarks: Original description is as follows: "Shell medium in size, rather thick, nearly orbicular in outline, equilateral; right valve more convex than left one, forming an angle of about 110° at apex. Right valve inflated, nearly smooth but with numerous (about 50), very low, flat-topped radial ribs and fine incremental lines; radial ribs much broader than their very shallow interspaces, sometimes tend to divide by a very shallow furrow towards ventral margin and rarely with fine intercalary threads. Left valve slightly inflated, with numerous, rather distinct but very low, imbricated radial ribs, sometimes with intercalary threads and fine incremental lines. Hinge with rather distinct cardinal crura having provinculum". The present species can be distinguished from Placopecten tani Kanno and Chung (1973) described from the Mushan Formation in central Taiwan by its inflated, rather thick shell having rather distinct imbricated radial ribs and characters in the hinge area. Dimensions (in mm.):
Type locality: Peikangchi (KS 180), Kuohsing, Nantou Hsien (Changhukeng Formation).
Geologic distribution: Chuanghukeng Formation in Nantou Hsien, Taiwan. Geologic range: Early Miocene.» MASUDA, K. & C. HUANG. 1990. Tertiary and Quaternary Pectinidae from northern Taiwan. Journal of the Geological Society of China, 37 (4): 497-549, pls. 1-10. [p. 516]
