«Genus Patinopecten DALL, 1898
[...]
Subgenus Masudapecten AKIYAMA, subgen. nov.
Type species. Patinopecten masudai AKIYAMA, sp. nov. Right valve with inconspicuous, less elevated radials and with conspicuous ctenolium; left valve furnished with narrow, line-like threads.
Remarks. It is probable from the resemblance of the surface sculpture between the present subgenus and Placopecten that have they are closely related to each other phylogenetically and have a common ancestor. Comparisons. The present new subgenus is allied to Patinopecten (s. str.), but can be distinguished from the right valve with less elevated radials and with conspicuous ctenolium and the left valve with less conspicuous threads.» MASAHIKO AKIYAMA, 1962
