1942 Posidonotis dainellii Losacco, 1942
«The type species of Posidonotis, P. dainellii Losacco from the upper Pliensbachian to lower Toarcian of Italy and Greece (Losacco 1942, p. 3, text-fig. 2-1, Pl. 1, figs. 3-9; Damborenea 1987, text-fig. 30; Monari 1994, p. 172, Pl. 13, fig. 13; Pl. 4, fig. 5) and the upper Pliensbachian of Japan (Hayami 1961, p. 252, Pl. 14, fig. 7; Hayami.1988, p.. 56?, figs. 1A-IE), is similar to the western American species in its shell size and cancellate ornament. As already pointed out by Damborenea (1987) and Hayami (1988), P. dainellii can be separated from P. semiplicata by being relatively lower in height and more strongly inequilateral, and by exhibiting more numerous radial plicae as well as a wider umbonal angle.»
