«Pecten Foulcheri. Plate 1, fig. 3.— Shell thin, equivalve, inequilateral, with many fine radiating ribs and nine larger ones, on which are scatterred coarse, unequal laminated or subspinous imbrications; length 1.6 x 1.6 of an inch. Somewhat common at Mount Gambier, but nearly always found in a broken state.»

Pecten foulcheri Tenison Woods, 1865: 1, fig. 3; Tate, 1886: 111; Pritchard, 1896: 127; Tate, 1899: 270. Pecten praecursor Chapman, 1912: 36, pl. 5. Notochlamys antecedens Singleton, 1941: 427 (unnecessary replacement name for Pecten praecursor Chapman, 1912, not Pecten precursor Dall, 1898). Description. Moderate-sized (c. 40-55 mm high), slightly taller than wide to, in most large specimens, slightly wider than high; moderately to quite strongly prosocline; umbonal angle moderate (c. 100-105°); weakly to moderately inflated, the two valves about equally inflated. Exterior sculpture commencing as 8-10 low, narrow, widely spaced primary costae, remaining simple and undivided or becoming complexly subdivided and intercalated across disc to produce an exceedingly variable range of sculpture, from 8-10 very prominent, narrow, widely spaced costae with long, flat to weakly ventrally cupped, ventrally inclined scales along costal crests and wide, deeply concave costal interspaces, to 60-70 low, narrow, closely spaced, subequal, finely scaly costae, on some specimens arranged on low to quite prominent plicae, ranging from 18-20 low, narrow, weak plicae to 8-10 more prominent ones; shagreen microsculpture present on all costal interspaces of most moderately to coarsely sculptured specimens, not present on most finely sculptured specimens. RV anterior auricle remaining long and narrow and retaining deep, narrow byssal notch and functional ctenolium in all specimens, anterior extremity long and narrowly pointed on some specimens; LV anterior auricle long, high, sloping towards anterior, anterior-margin weakly concave to weakly sinuous; posterior auricles short, small, posterior margin weakly to quite strongly concave, sloping towards anterior. RV hinge with obvious long, narrow dorsal teeth and low, very narrow, widely diverging ridges alongside dorsal half of resilifer; LV with sockets for RV dorsal teeth, margined below by low infradorsal ridges, and with very low, narrow resilial ridges diverging at markedly lower angle than in RV, and apparently fitting towards resilifer, inside RV ridges.»
