«Bernard (1983: 26, 28) introduced Pecten (Flabellipecten) berryi, for the preoccupied Pecten lunaris Berry, 1963 (non Römer, 1839). However, he overlooked Pecten berryi Stephenson, 1923, a fossil of North Carolina (U.S.A.).
Pecten stillmani is here proposed as nomen novum for Pecten (Flabellipecten) berryi Bernard, 1983, after the previous author Samuel Stillman Berry (1887-1984).» HENK H. DIJKSTRA, 1998

«Only a single fossil of L. stillmani has been found, its identity determined on the basis of the transverse profiles of its ribbing and the shape of its auricles. It is the right valve from the Esmeraldas beds of Ecuador that Olsson (1964, p. 34, pl. 4, fig. 1; USNM 643798) described as Pecten (F.) cf. sericeus. Studies of benthic and planktonic foraminifera and nannoplankton indicate that these beds are Early Pliocene (Zanclean) in age, no younger than the basal part of planktonic foraminiferal zone N21 and with a possible time range from about 2.9 to 3.7 million years (Haman and Kohl, 1986; Hasson and Fischer, 1986; Whittaker, 1988; see Berggren et al., 1985, 1995, for zonal and time scheme and Pitt and Pitt, 1989, for formational terminology).»

A fragment of the right valve of a large Pecten from Punta Gorda is tentatively referred to this species. The shell is thin, of medium convexity, sculptured with about 23, low, rectangular, flat-topped ribs set between interspaces of the same width.
