«Cenozoic representatives of Delectopecten have been described from Japan (Masuda 1962) and Eocene-Pliocene strata of the west coast of North America (WOODRING 1938, MACNEIL 1967; MOORE 1984 and bibliography therein). Other possible early representatives of Delectopecten can be found in the Danian of Russia (Delectopecten pellucides KALISHEVICH, in KALISHEVICH et al. 1981) and probably in the Danian of Greenland (Pecten pfaffi RAVN, 1918) and Montian of Dnieper-Donetsk Basin (Camptonectes sumensis MOROZ, 1972) (pers. com. of T. WALLER). The present paper is the first mention of the genus in the Cenozoic of southern South America and, along with the Australian Paleocene species D. crassistriatus (BEU & DARRAGH, 2001) constitutes the only known Cenozoic record of the genus in southern high latitudes.»
