«Genus Somapecten KIMURA, n. gen.
Genotype:— Somapecten kanaimanensis KIMURA, n. sp.
Diagnosis:— Shell orbicular, or ovate, rather compressed, equivalve and equilateral. Ears equal or subequal, projected beyond the hinge margin. Surface smooth.
Internally below the hinge margin, one strong triangular tooth can be seen on the right valve, and one socket on the left. Remark:— The specimens belonging to this genus can not be distinguished from Entolium when the structures below the hinge margin are not observed. The tooth and socket below the hinge margin are very characteristic and extraordinary for the pectinidae, and it is doubtful if this genus belongs to the pectinidae or not, but because other characters except tooth and socket are very similar to Entolium this may belong to the Pectinidae.» TOSHIO KIMURA, 1951
