«Type.— No. 30221, Univ. Calif. CoIl. Invert. Pal.; L. S. J. U. locality N. P. 133.
Cotype.— No. 30222, Univ. Calif. CoIl. Invert. Pal.; L. S. J. U. locality N. P.133. Shell small, subcircular, equivalved; hinge line about three-fourths length of valve. Anterior ears well defined but not separated from main surface by a distinct line; surface of ears sculptured by fine radial threads; byssal notch on left valve not deep. Posterior to byssal notch a rather pronounced groove separates main surfaee of valve from ear. Surfaee of valves covered by numerous fine, somewhat irregular spaced threads. Surfaee also covered by fairly heavy concentric undulations on and betvveen which are finer lines of growth. Dimensions of type speeimen: Length 7 mm., height 7.5 mm. This form is undoubtedly very closely related to P. vancouverensis Whiteaves. [29] The following are some of the differences between P. vancouverensis and the subspecies sanjuanensis: The anterior ears of the subspeeies are not so long as those of the species; the byssal noteh is hot so great, there is a deeper groove posterior to it, and the Reeent form does not have the major concentric undulations. In other respects the two forms are remarkably similar. Occurrence.— Leland Stanford Jr. University locality N. P. 133» [29] For figure and original description of P. vancouverensis Whiteaves, see Arnold, R., Prof. Paper 47, U. S. GeoI. Surv., p. 140, pI. 52, figs. 3, 3a, 1906.

«The "mud pecten" Delectopecten vancouverensis sanjuanensis, which is tentatively identified from locality CSUN 1518. was previously reported as occurring only in the upper Oligocene to lower Miocene Sooke Formation from Vancouver Island, British Columbia (Weaver, 1942). If this species is present in the upper unit at Pulali Point, it would represent the earliest occurrence of this genus, whose geologic range has been previously reported as late Eocene to Recent (Hertlein, 1969).»

«Pecten (Pseudamusium) vancouverensis Whiteaves subsp. sanjuanensis Clark and Arnold, Univ. Calif. Publ., Bull. Dept. Geol. Sci., vol. 14, pp. 140, 141, pl. 16, figs. 5, 6, 1923.
Pecten (Pseudamusium) pedroanus (Trask) var. vancouverensis Whiteaves, Grant IV and Gale, Mem. San Diego Soc. Nat. Hist., vol. 1, p. 288, 1931. Original description. Shell small, subcircular, equivalved; hinge line about three-fourths length of valve. Anterior ears well defined but not separated from main surface by a distinct line; surface of ears sculptured by fine radial threads; byssal notch on left valve not deep. Posterior to byssal notch a rather pronounced groove separates main surface of valve from ear. Surface of valves covered by numerous fine, somewhat irregular spaced threads. Surface also covered by fairly heavy concentric undulations on and between which are finer lines of growth. Dimensions of type specimen: length 7 mm., height 7.5 mm. (Clark and Arnold)
Observations. In distinguishing the var. sanjuanensis from P. vancouverensis, Clark noted in the former a smaller byssal notch, a deeper groove posterior to it, and a lack of major concentric undulations.
