Remarks: Original description is·as follows: " Shell rather small in size, medium in thickness, higher than long, inequivalve, equilateral except for auricles; valves radiately ribbed, forming an angle of about 80° at apex. Right valve somewhat inflated, with about 15 prominent, round-topped, smooth radial ribs which are broader than their smooth bottomed interspaces; anterior auricle larger than posterior one, with rather deep byssal notch, and with several imbricated radial threads and concentric lines. Left valve a little inflated but less than right valve, with nearly similar sculpture with that of right valve". The present species resembles Volachlamys hirasei awajiensis (Pilsbry), a Recent species of Southwestern Pacific, but the latter can be distinguished from the present one by its large shell and very large, triangular auricles. Type locality: Shuiliutungchi (SLT 33), Kuohsing, Nantou Hsien (Kueichulin Formation).
Geologic distribution: Kueichulin Formation in Nantou Hsien and Chinsui Formation (?) in Miaoli Hsien, Taiwan. Geologic range: Late Miocene to Early Pliocene (?).» MASUDA, K. & C. HUANG. 1994.
