«The family Entoliidae, as herein emended, is distinguished from the new family Entolioididae in having little or no columnar prismatic calcite on the right valve and in lacking well-developed radial ornament on the exterior of the left valve. The auricles of the right valve are commonly scrolled, and in some members of the Entoliidae these scrolls may be hypertrophied. As in the Entolioididae, shapes are generally amusiiform, with the byssal notch tending to become obsolete or disappearing in late ontogeny and with lateral disk buttresses less developed or absent.»
