«Description:— Shell small, sub-equilateral, longer than high or nearly as long as high; right valve more convex than the other, the left one being nearly flat; umbones acute, a little projected beyond the hinge margin; anterior ear slightly longer than the posterior, with a deep byssal groove.
Surface ornamented with about 14 coarse, regularly spaced radial ribs which are smooth or have several small nodes on the top and are subsquare with subvertical sides in cross section; furrows flat, a little broader than the ribs, and covered by numerous fine concentric lines, generally one and sometimes two radial striae inserted in the furrow. Anterior ear of the right valve ornamented with several wide radial ribs, very narrow furrows and numerous concentric striae. Comparison:— This species is characterized by radial ribs which are subsquare in cross section. Radial ribs in the holotype specimen bear only a few nodes, but 10 are counted on each rib in the paratype (No. 7116) from Todorokiya which has a rather high outline. Aequipecten symmetricus (MORRIS) by PARIS and RICHARDSON (1915, p. 523, pI. 44, fig. 5) from the Inferior Oolite in England resembles this species, but differs in having 16 ribs and no radial striae in the furrows.
Occurrence:— Arinoki, Mimikire, Nioigataki and Todorokiya.» TOSHIO KIMURA, 1951
